Typically used to describe a body mass index 25-29.9 kg/m2. This is a state of excess body weight (fat) for a given height that is higher than normal (normal is BMI 18.5-24.9 kg/m2), but not as extreme as obesity. Being overweight puts you at higher risk for diabetes and heart disease. In Asians, a BMI of 23 or greater is considered overweight.
